Drilling Fluid
Bases

Drilling fluid bases are petroleum derivatives carefully selected for their thermal stability, lubricating properties (lubricity), and low toxicity.

They are used as key components in the formulation of oil-based drilling muds (OBM), especially in demanding drilling operations both onshore and in marine environments.

Petroleum Derivatives for Oil-Based Drilling Muds

These oleaginous bases are selected for their specific physicochemical characteristics, such as low viscosity, high thermal stability, and favorable behavior under downhole pressure and temperature.

Their use enables the formulation of invert emulsion drilling muds (OBM) that optimize lubricity, reduce friction between the drill bit and the formation, and improve operational efficiency in deep, horizontal, or offshore drilling environments.

Benefits and Applications
  • High thermal and chemical stability

  • Reduced drill string friction

  • Protection against corrosion of metallic components

  • Improved wellbore cleaning and cuttings transport

  • Compatible with a wide variety of additives

  • Withstands high pressure and high temperature (HPHT) conditions

Light Distillate

Low-viscosity refined fraction obtained through the thermal cracking of used lubricating oils. Its excellent thermal stability and caloric value make it a versatile product for various industrial and energy applications.

Widely used in sectors such as: maritime, asphalt, cement, food processing, agricultural (fertilizers), gypsum, as well as alternative fuel distributors.

Extra-Light Distillate

“Light” (DLL)

Very low-viscosity refined fraction, derived from the advanced recycling of lubricating oils through thermal cracking processes. Its lighter composition grants it excellent performance as a diluent, fuel, or base for formulations.

This product is widely used in the maritime, asphalt, cement, food processing, agricultural (fertilizers), gypsum, as well as alternative fuel distributors, among others.

Low Sulfur Refined Distillate

(DRBA or “Bright”)

It is a light, refined, filtered, and clarified distillate, characterized by its **low viscosity** and **low sulfur content**. Its formulation guarantees a **high caloric value**, greater operational safety thanks to its **high flash point**, and a significant reduction in operating costs compared to the use of conventional diesel.

It is mainly used as a **base fluid for drilling muds**, an **alternative marine fuel**, and in industrial applications where efficient thermal performance and emissions control are required.

Light Gas Oil

"Fuel Oil"

Refined fuel with high quality and controlled density, formulated to offer high caloric value and cleaner combustion. Its consistent quality and low ash generation make it ideal for demanding industrial applications that require energy efficiency and reduced contaminant emissions.

This product is frequently used in industrial furnaces, boilers, drying processes, and as an economical alternative to conventional fuels like diesel.
